Backstory

Corvus von Gerth is the eldest son of Duke Gerth, the Imperial Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was born without the Crest of Macuil, while his younger brother Riccardus was born with it and was chosen as the family's heir. Corvus grew up close to his brother but was often overlooked by his parents and spent much of his childhood away from court. He was a poor student but excelled at practical work, especially leatherworking, wyvern equipment, and tinkering. His rebellious behavior earned him a reputation as the troublesome son of one of the Empire's great houses.When Dagda and Brigid invaded Nuvelle, Corvus and Riccardus were sent with House Gerth's forces as the first and only reinforcements. Following the defeat and subsequent retreat from Nuvelle, Corvus was given command of several groups of young soldiers and refugees. With enemy forces on their tail, he accidentally led them into an ambush, where many were killed, including Riccardus. Corvus returned home blaming himself for his brother's death. Some nobles accused him of deliberately killing Riccardus out of jealousy and to claim the family inheritance, while many soldiers credited him with saving their lives during the retreat. At Riccardus's funeral after the war, Corvus attacked a noble who called him a kinslayer. He left home soon afterward, leaving a final letter that disinherited himself from House Gerth.Corvus spent the next four years serving in Brigid. He had once hated the people he fought there, but living among them changed his view of the war and taught him to respect other cultures. He became close to the Imperial military governor and continued serving as a low-ranking commander. Eventually four years passed, on the eve of his fifth, Corvus was given an ultimatum from his general. Either he attends the Officer's Academy on behalf of the Imperial Army, or simply go home.Corvus accepted the recommendation and scholarship to attend the Officer's Academy at Garreg Mach. At twenty-two, he joined the Black Eagles as their oldest member.
